About Lyn
I’ve loved books all my life. Studying, researching, teaching and being a teacher-librarian has brought me in touch with many, many books. The library is my favourite place to be.
I was born in Brisbane and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Queensland. Then my teaching career began in 1974 when I was transferred to the small central western Queensland town of Clermont. At the high school I taught English, French and History. I met my husband in Clermont and we later returned to Brisbane where I continued my university studies. When our two children were small, we moved back to Clermont where I resumed my teaching and began my external post graduate studies. I obtained a Graduate Diploma in Applied Science (Teacher-Librarianship) from Edith Cowan University Western Australia in 1991 and so began my career as a teacher-librarian.
Living in Clermont and rural Queensland gave me an insight to life on the land.
We have experienced floods and drought. We love our horses and foals and all
the native animals and birds that live on our property. We have seen neighbours
come and go. We have experienced many changes in rural life and have seen the
impact this has had on people’s lives and livelihoods.
These experiences and my family’s love of horses and cattle are the basis of
my ideas for writing.
I am currently employed as the Teacher-Librarian of a Catholic secondary
co-educational college in Rockhampton. I teach Information Literacy and
Research Skills to approximately 800 students….and love it! I also get to read
and buy lots of books!
I’m a member of the Australian Society of Authors and Queensland Writers
Centre.
My children are grown up and I now have two wonderful grand daughters.
My husband and I live on our horse property, Kalwarren Park, Alton Downs outside Rockhampton in Central Queensland.
In my spare time, I write children’s stories and poetry.
